What comes to mind when you think of self care? There is no right or wrong answer. Self care means different things to different people. For a health guru, it may be treating yourself to something sweet every now and then. For a worrier, it may be releasing all anxiety and having a spa night. Like I said, there are many ways to practice self care and these are some of my favorites!

Shop. For me, shopping has always been a go-to self care tip. You don’t have to spend a ton of money to splurge for yourself. It could be something small like a new candle or a book. Or if you are looking to spend a little bit more money you could buy a new outfit or go to a nail salon and get a mani-pedi. (Side tip: If you are on a budget, thrift stores could become your new best friend!)

Read a book. Taking time out of your day to sit down and read a book is one of the most productive ways to self care. Not only do you get to enjoy the book you are reading, it is said that reading sharpens the mind and (fiction in particular) can cause more creativity and open mindedness. And if you having trouble falling asleep like I do, reading improves sleep!

Music. Music is an amazing way to de-stress. Whether it’s listening to it in your free time or going to a concert, music can almost always lift your mood. It is also good for people on the go. Just pop in some headphones and you are set.

Vamp up your space. This one may take a bit more effort, but the final product is great! After a while, working/living in the same environment can get a little bland. If you have the option, redecorating is a great way to give an area new life. You could go all out, or it could be as simple as reorganizing. Anything to give the area a little flair can change your attitude for the better.

Spend time with friends. This may seem like an obvious one but it is so true! Spending time with your favorite people is a sure fire way to be in a better mood. Having weekly or semi-weekly check-ins with the people that you are closest to is a good way to keep your life and emotions in check and also it helps you bond and get closer to your friends.

Get outside. As much as I love spending a day inside on Netflix and Tumblr, I also really enjoy taking time for myself outside. It gives you time to think and process things without the influences of the internet. It is a time to unwind and part ways from the hustle and bustle that is social media. I’m not saying you having to go outside and run a 5k, but walking is very beneficial to the body. Even taking 10 minutes out of your day can give you time to relax and clear your head.

  1. Self love and care is SO important. You have to put yourself first and take care of yourself before you worry about anyone else. I strongly believe that your happiness and well being come first no matter what. Great tips!
