The Kubler-Ross Model of Grief

Pain

By nature, humans are emotional creatures. Positive feelings can ignite joy and laughter that brightens up the soul. And if we feel the negatives, we feel sorrow, anguish, and pain to the depths of our cores. We can’t help doing so because it is our nature, a characteristic that makes us feel like we’re alive. Nobody really wants to feel pain, and we generally do everything we can to maximize the good feelings. But as life teaches us, we can never fully live our lives without experiencing the gradients that it offers us. The negatives bring out the contrasts, and we usually learn most of the life lessons we value when we feel pain.

Elisabeth Kübler-Ross has written about how humans tend to handle grief. She has talked about it in what we now know as the Five Stages of Grief. She said that when we are faced with grief, we undergo these stages in order to deal with the feeling of loss and pain.
